national and international resources Atlas of United States Mortality -- This atlas, published by the CDC, is the first to show all leading causes of death by race and sex for small U.S. geographic areas referred to as Health Service Areas (HSA's). Autism - National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) -- The National Alliance for Autism Research, NAAR, is a national nonprofit, tax-exempt organization dedicated to finding the causes, prevention, effective treatment and, ultimately, cure of the autism spectrum disorders. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) -- The CDC is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The CDC's mission is to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability. The site provides a wide range of health related information with links to national and international resources. CenterWatch -- CenterWatch provides an international listing of industry- and government-sponsored clinical trials, as well as other resources for patients and researchers. Colorado HealthNet (CHN) -- The CHN is a nonprofit corporation providing access to information, support services, medical resources and related health care information for persons with chronic medical conditions. Combined Health Information Database (CHID) -- CHID is a database produced by health-related agencies of the Federal Government. This database provides titles, abstracts, and availability information for health information and health education resources. Food & Drug Administration -- Source of information about the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, with information about newly approved drugs and medical devices. Genetic & Rare Conditions -- Comprehensive source of information about genetic and rare conditions, support groups and information provided by the University of Kansas Medical Center. Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) -- The Gluten Intolerance Group is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of gluten intolerance by providing information, and education, as well as support, to those with celiac disease/dermatitis herpetiformis, their families, health care professionals and the general public. HealthTalk InteractiveTM -- Sounding like talk radio shows, but delivered both over the telephone - via toll-free numbers - and the Internet, HealthTalk Interactive® (HTISM) is a free, around-the-clock service that connects patients and family members worldwide with leading medical experts and also with other people like themselves. Healthtouch® -- Healthtouch® is a source for health information, health products, and health services, including: drug information, a health resource directory, and information on health, wellness, diseases, and illnesses. International Patient Advocacy Association (IPAA) -- IPAA is a non-profit organization that works closely with patients, industry, researchers and legislators to provide legal and patient advocacy...free of charge. Any individual diagnosed with a chronic illness can receive help with obtaining new treatment therapies, insurance coverage, educational materials, patient meetings, lobbying efforts, and more. Locks of Love -- Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the U.S. under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. MayoClinic Health Oasis -- The Mayo Clinic Health Oasis provides a wide range of reliable health information and patient resources that is directed by a team of Mayo physicians, scientists, writers and educators. MEDLINEplus -- MEDLINEplus, an educational resource tool, of the National Library of Medicine, provides access to over nine million published scientific articles, and access to a directory of health topics for consumers and professionals, physician referral directories, medical terminology, and more. Merck -- Obtain information about the Merck Company and access the Merck Manual the most widely used medical text in the world covering all but the most obscure disorders, including symptoms, common clinical procedures, laboratory tests, and virtually all the disorders that a general internist might encounter. The Manual also deals with problems of pregnancy and delivery; common and serious disorders of neonates, infants, and children; genetics; drug dependency; psychiatric disorders; and many disorders covered by other specialties. MS Knowledge Center -- MS Knowledge Center, published by Seattle based Immunex Corporation, is an informational resource for people with Multiple Sclerosis, family members and health care providers. National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, (NAMI) -- The mission of NAMI is to improve the quality of life for people with chronic mental illnesses and their families. NAMI provides support groups, informs and educates, reachs out to the community, advocate for improved services and research, and fight to eliminate stigma in mental illness. National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) -- The NCCN was formed to create cancer-management strategies for large employers and third-party payers. Its mission is to integrate the experience of member cancer centers to ensure delivery of high-quality, cost-effective services to cancer patients across the country. Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) -- The PRIM&R is committed to the advancement of research programs and the consistent application of ethical precepts in medicine and research. Topics addressed include: the ethical and procedural issues surrounding the operation of Institutional Review Boards and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees, the range of problems surrounding AIDS research and treatment, reproductive and other technologies and their effects on patient care, healthcare ethics committees, scientific integrity and conflict of interest, and the general questions surrounding academic/industrial relations. PubMed -- A National Library of Medicine's search service to access the 9 million citations in MEDLINE and Pre-MEDLINE (with links to participating on-line journals), and other related databases. Rare Genetic Diseases In Children -- An Internet Resource Gateway providing comprehensive information for families, including Message Boards, a Resource Directory and an area for children. Research America -- Research America, founded in 1989, is a not-for-profit, membership-supported, public education and advocacy alliance. Its mission is to make medical research a much higher national priority. The Body: Multimedia AIDS and HIV Information -- Obtain the latest news on AIDS & HIV research, reports on scientific developments, Q&A from specialists, large collection of linked resources, including discussion groups. WellnessWeb -- WellnessWeb is a collaboration of patients, healthcare professionals, and other caregivers. Access information about clinical trials, community health, drug dosages and compliance, treatment options and research, how to select a health care provider, reports on dozens of illnesses and conditions, tips about healthy lifestyles, complementary treatment alternatives and options, and many more topics.
