Oracle Database Administrator
Reporting to: Database Administrator
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Database Administrator, this position plans, programs and administers computerized databases. Coordinates with users and developers to determine requirements, validates design, and provides training. Analyzes designs, creates and implements more complex databases including access methods, device allocations, validation checks, organization and security.
Duties and Responsibilities:
May include some or all of the following:
- Performs database administration functions for Oracle instances.
- Monitors the database instances.
- Creates/maintains database objects.
- Administers database security.
- Installs DBMS software.
- Analyzes requirements and deploys backups for the various subsystems.
- Creates/maintains documentation of database installations and other DBMS processes.
- Designs and programs new and existing computer databases.
- Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls for computerized databases.
- Identifies user requirements, and determines appropriate database applications.
- Troubleshoots and tests software.
- Trains users and provides day to day database support to users.
- Upgrades databases as required, and performs routine maintenance.
- Provides back-up to Systems Administrators.
- Other related duties, as required.
Experience and Qualifications:
- A degree or diploma in Computer Science and experience in developing and maintaining large databases, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience programming in Oracle and MS Access, DB2, SQL, XML and Visual Basic (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in managing Oracle systems.
- Ability to design databases that effectively protect the integrity of the data.
- The ability to work independently to achieve goals and objectives.
- The ability to communicate effectively with users.
- Undergraduate course work in chemistry or biology desirable but not required.
Preferred:
- Oracle certification is preferred.
- Database reporting experience is desirable utilizing Oracle tools and/or third party reporting tools.
