Software Engineer

The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an internationally renowned non-profit research institute dedicated to the study and application of systems biology. Founded in 2000 in Seattle, Washington, ISB’s goal is to unravel the mysteries of cellular networks and identify strategies that will usher in a new era of predictive, preventive and personalized medicine.

An ideal candidate will be motivated and eager to work in a highly collaborative atmosphere along with laboratory scientists and computational biologists who jointly address leading edge questions in systems biology. Ability to closely interact/collaborate with scientists and to address their needs/requirements and prioritize requests will be key for success in this position. The candidate should be well versed in Java, Python, mySQL, and Perl. Minimum 3 years experience supporting a dynamic research project required. Software development experience, knowledge of R/MatLab and some familiarity with molecular biology, biochemistry etc. are big pluses.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Maintaining an existing platform-independent software infrastructure (Gaggle) for a highly interdisciplinary research group.
  2. Providing necessary technical support by assisting in data wrangling operations (by writing scripts in Python/R/Perl, fixing bugs in software, etc.).
  3. Developing new software solutions for data visualization and integration for systems biology.
