Institute for Systems Biology

Research Associate I

The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an internationally renowned non-profit research institute dedicated to the study and application of systems biology. Founded in 2000 in Seattle, Washington, ISB’s goal is to unravel the mysteries of cellular networks and identify strategies that will usher in a new era of predictive, preventive and personalized medicine.

The Aderem Lab at the Institute for Systems Biology is seeking a research associate to help with proteomic analysis of macrophages and innate immune signaling.

The candidate will join an ongoing project to produce data for a large-scale analysis of macrophage activation using proteomic approaches. These approaches include various biochemical techniques developed at the ISB such as such as glycocapture of secreted proteins, labeling and capture of cell surface proteins, and ICAT technology. The candidate will be involved in growing cells and producing labeled protein samples for proteomic analysis that will be processed in the proteomics core facility at the ISB. The candidate may also participate in further experimental validation and exploration based on results obtained through these large-scale investigations.

Requirements:

A B.S. degree and a minimum of 2 years laboratory experience are required. The position requires knowledge of basic molecular biology, biochemistry and cell culture. Duties may include the following: cell biology techniques including the culture of primary mouse cells and the transfection of cell lines; biochemistry techniques including ELISA, PAGE, western blotting and protein purification. Experience with all these techniques is not required but familiarity with several will be an asset.

Applicants should email a resume/CV, three references, an employment application, and affirmative action form (both downloadable from the Careers page of our website at www.systemsbiology.org) to hr@systemsbiology.org. Please include job number 06-013 in all correspondence regarding this position.
