Position Overview:
The UW TechTransfer Invention Licensing’s mission is to extend the impact of UW research through the creation of partnerships that encourage investment in innovation. The Technology Manager will oversee the protection of the University's patentable intellectual property, work to convert these innovations into marketable products and services and facilitate University collaborations with industry. The Technology Manager manages all aspects of an academic technology transfer portfolio dedicated to inventions from the UW's School of Medicine and science departments.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Requirements:
Ph.D. in the biological sciences or a medically-related field with strong technical background; course work in business, marketing, or law. Significant technology transfer experience in an academic or corporate environment focused on medical therapies and/or diagnostics. Minimum two years experience in technology transfer. Minimum five years experience in scientific research, corporate R&D;, product or business development, or intellectual property law. Equivalent education/experience may substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Additional Requirements:
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills to include public speaking. Proven business sense to include demonstrated negotiation, presentation and marketing skills. Ability to interact effectively in both the academic and corporate cultures. Demonstrated ability to absorb technical details of new technologies. Effective at setting priorities and obtaining closure. Experience in working both independently and collaboratively with other colleagues. Proven ability to think creatively, then translate into viable action plan. MBA is desirable.
Salary: Salary and benefits are competitive. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
